Checkered Lilies

While Steffen and I are still working on all the new images from our latest trip to the United States in February/March, we also paid a visit to the checkered lilies that grow on a meadow right here at our hometown Dresden. The "Fritillaria meleagris" (also called "snake's head" or simply "fritillary") is an endangered species, rarely found in the wild. They can be up to 40 cm (16 inches) in height and its fragile bell-shaped flowers feature checkered patterns in all shades of violet and purple. Although there are also some pure white varieties. We took so many images that we made a new image gallery -> Flowers.
